Educational Assistant

The Heartland Agency’s EvenStart program is a special education and treatment program serving children between 3 and 5 years who come from a variety of 'at risk' situations, including backgrounds of trauma, abuse, neglect and poverty.

We are currently hiring Educational Assistants for the 2016-2017 school year.

Teacher

Heartland Agency’s EvenStart program is currently seeking compassionate and dynamic teachers to join our team for the upcoming 2016/2017 school year. Working together, we will offer programming that advances children’s emotional, physical and intellectual health, and links families with supports to promote more positive family outcomes.

Position Details: 

As the leader in the classroom, your role is to inspire those around you and bring joy to the classroom environment. Working with at-risk children, many who have come from backgrounds of trauma, abuse neglect and poverty, you must be able to bring laughter, understanding, and creativity with you to work each day.  Responsibilities include:

  • Create a safe and nurturing environment for children
  • Plan, prepare and facilitate centre-based learning under a Reggio Emilia inspired framework
  • Plan for the development of the whole child, and for modifications required for individual children
  • Meet deadlines for completion of required paperwork (e.g., IPPs, progress reports, day plans, etc.)
  • Communicate child progress to parents and caregivers through in-home visits
  • Collaborate with therapy, classroom, and management teams
  • Assist with self-help skills where needed, including eating, toileting and dressing
  • Participate in at least one bussing component daily

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Education degree; early childhood education and/or special education would be a definite asset
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license and willingness to obtain a Class 4 license
  • First aid certification & criminal record check (can be obtained upon hire within a designated time frame)
  • Experience/knowledge around working in a Reggio inspired environment is an asset; willingness and openness to learn more about this approach is required
  • Excellent time management and problem solving skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Bus Driver

The Heartland Agency is seeking energetic individuals to join our Agency as Bus Drivers for the preschool programs at our Currie Barracks (Building B4, 2452 Battleford Ave SW) and Signal Hill (1919 Sirocco Drive SW) locations. Positions are part time in nature (hours vary by site) with additional time allotted for fueling and cleaning buses, as well as related duties as assigned by the Site Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safe transportation of the children to and from school
  • Daily bus inspections; rotating fueling and cleaning schedules
  • Develop and revise bus route in conjunction with the Site Manager
  • Relay information to and from the school; maintain accurate documentation in regards to drop off and pick up times, incident reporting, etc.
  • Related duties as assigned by the Site Manager

Qualifications:

  • Valid Class 4 Driver’s License and clean driver’s abstract
  • S-Endorsement training is an asset
  • Current child care first aid certification (can be obtained upon hire within a designated time frame)
  • Current criminal record check (including vulnerable sector check)
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
