BUS DRIVER

The Bus Drivers are supervised by the Site Managers of each site and are responsible for the transportation needs of the Agency.

Duties:

  1. The safe transportation of the children to and from school.
  2. Ensure a respectful and professional relationship with the families despite what their actions may be.
  3. Ensure the cleanliness of the bus with a thorough weekly cleaning
  4. Ensure the bus is fuelled and the necessary fluids on a regular basis.
  5. Ensure that the bus has the necessary supplies in terms of first aid, a garbage can, etc.
  6. Must carry a cell phone so that they an be contacted while on their route.
  7. Ensure supplies exist to stimulate and occupy the children such as books, music and games.
  8. Ensure that the child bus attendance form is filled out (rider can assist here) when the children arrive on the bus, before the bus leaves and as the children get off the bus. The parents will sign the children on and off the bus but the driver or rider must take the attendance loading on and off at the school and while on the bus.
  9. Developing and revising the bus route and ensuring that the site office has a copy of the most up to date route. (The site office will ensure that the head office also has a copy).
  10. A bus inspection must be completed at the start of each route and at the end of each route to sure that all lights are working properly and there are no safety hazards on or around the bus. An inspection to ensure that no children are on the bus also needs to be completed.
  11. Relaying information to and from the school. When Teachers have information to pass on they will leave it on the bus clipboard. When parents have information to relay this information needs to be provided to the site office/Teachers upon arrival at the site.
  12. Documentation of any traffic accidents or incidents/accidents while on the bus.

Education:

A Valid Class 4 driver’s license and first aid certificate.

Salary Rate: $12.00/hr (increase in wage dependant upon whether Day Care Certification)


Staffing Procedures

  1. All staff will demonstrate the whereabouts and safety of the group of children under their supervision at all times while the child is at the school. Children are not to be in classrooms unattended at any time and must be with an adult.
  2. Staff will:
    1. Take attendance of the children in the classroom
    2. Ensure that they are in the room 10 minutes prior to class starting to ensure the class is free from safety hazards and is set up for the children
    3. Greet each child as they enter the room
    4. Greet any parent that arrives and get an update on the child
    5. Introduce new children or staff
    6. Clarify the children’s knowledge of the classroom staff’s names
    7. Explain the day’s plan to the children
    8. Ensure that the child’s dietary needs are met (i.e. allergies and religious beliefs)
    9. Create a climate of safety and respect among the children and the staff and the children
    10. Ensure that when children are on equipment they are close by to address any issues.
    11. Ensure that they interact and participate with the children on an ongoing basis for the entire class time and do not use this time for dialogue with other staff.
    12. Do not leave the classroom while the children are present except for urgent circumstances (i.e. Not for phone calls or photocopying or getting supplies, this all must be done outside of class time).
    13. Ensure that all cell phones and other personal devices are off during class time
    14. Staff will be required to do some cover off for Signal Hill staff during PD days requiring them to work in the am or pm in the class at Signal Hill. This will rotate among all Teaching/EA and Therapy Assistant positions at all the sites.
    15. Ensure that children are not breaking toys/equipment and are keeping the sand and pea gravel in their boxes and not all over the decking surfaces.
