Heartland Agency’s EvenStart Program offers holistic support services to children, many from backgrounds of poverty, trauma, abuse, and neglect. EvenStart provides programming that supports the growth and development of children’s social-emotional and learning needs within a centre-based setting, offering the support of a multi-disciplinary team consisting of teachers, educational assistants, and therapists.

 

Full Time Teachers

 

We are currently recruiting compassionate and dynamic full-time Teachers to work within our multi-disciplinary team, beginning on August 22, 2019. Positions are available at multiple locations (please indicate preference for location on cover letter):

  • Mayland Heights (1625 18th Street NE)
  • Signal Hill (2A, 1919 Sirocco Drive SW)

Responsibilities:

As the leader in the classroom, your role is to inspire those around you and bring joy to the classroom environment. Working with at-risk children, many who have come from backgrounds of trauma, abuse neglect and poverty, you must be able to bring laughter, understanding, and creativity with you to work each day.  Responsibilities include:

  • Create a safe and nurturing environment for children
  • Plan, prepare and facilitate centre-based learning under a Reggio Emilia inspired framework
  • Plan for the development of the whole child, and for modifications required for individual children
  • Meet deadlines for completion of required paperwork (e.g., IPPs, progress reports, day plans, etc.)
  • Communicate child progress to parents and caregivers through in-home visits
  • Collaborate with therapy, classroom, and management teams
  • Assist with self-help skills where needed, including eating, toileting and dressing
  • Participate in at least one bussing component daily

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Education degree; early childhood education and/or special education would be a definite asset
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license and willingness to obtain a Class 4 license
  • First aid certification & criminal record check (can be obtained upon hire within a designated time frame)
  • Experience/knowledge around working in a Reggio inspired environment is an asset; willingness and openness to learn more about this approach is required
  • Excellent time management and problem solving skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Bus Driver

 

The Heartland Agency is seeking qualified and energetic individuals to join our Agency as Bus Drivers, beginning on August 26, 2019. These positions are part time in nature (approximately 3-5 hours per day, depending on individual site needs) with additional time allotted for fueling and cleaning buses, as well as related duties as assigned by the Site Manager. The rate of pay is $19.50/hour, with positions available at multiple locations (please indicate site preference in cover letter/resume):

  • Monterey Park (6908 26th Avenue NE)
  • Mayland Heights (1625 18th Street NE)
  • Signal Hill (2A, 1919 Sirocco Drive SW)

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safe transportation of the children to and from school
  • Daily bus inspections; rotating fueling and cleaning schedules
  • Develop and revise bus route in conjunction with the Site Manager
  • Relay information to and from the school; maintain accurate documentation in regards to drop off and pick up times, incident reporting, etc.
  • Related duties as assigned by the Site Manager

 

Qualifications:

  • Valid Class 2 or 4 Driver’s License and clean driver’s abstract
  • S-Endorsement training and certification is mandatory
  • Current first aid certification (can be obtained upon hire within a designated time frame)
  • Current criminal record check (including vulnerable sector check)
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision

Educational Assistants

The EA implements and facilitates daily classroom plans under the supervision and direction of the classroom teacher. Working with at-risk children, many who have come from backgrounds of trauma, abuse neglect and poverty, you must be able to bring laughter, understanding, and creativity with you to work each day. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Create a safe and nurturing environment for children
  • Collaborate with therapy, classroom, and management teams
  • Develop and implement activities and strategies to address individual goals
  • Organize and prepare daily plans/strategies for children to address unique needs (e.g., visual schedules, curriculum modifications, sensory strategies, etc.)
  • Assist children in play activities to address their goals
  • Communicate child progress to parents and caregivers through in-home visits
  • Assist with self-help skills where needed, including eating, toileting and dressing
  • Assist with classroom maintenance, material preparation and set-up
  • Participation in up to 2 bussing components throughout the day (as a rider or driver)

Qualifications:

  • Alberta Child Care Certification (can be obtained upon hire within a designated time frame)
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license and willingness to obtain a Class 4 license
  • First aid certification & criminal record check with vulnerable sector check (can be obtained upon hire within a designated time frame)
  • Experience with a special needs population is an asset

Cook

 

Heartland Agency is committed to providing high-quality programs that help all children, regardless of circumstance, reach their full potential. We are currently seeking Preschool Cooks to join our team, starting on August 26, 2019. Positions are available at the following locations (please indicate site preference in cover letter/resume):

  • Signal Hill (1919 Sirocco Drive SW)
  • Centre 4800 (1227 48th Avenue NE)

 

Responsibilities:

  • Menu planning and preparation of daily meals for approximately 75-100 children (depending on location) in accordance with guidelines under the Canada Food Guide; meals should be creative and appeal to a diverse range of individuals
  • Ensure quality of food and determine size of food portions
  • Plan and assist in the purchase of weekly groceries to compliment menu plan for the week; work within a designated budget in line with a not-for-profit agency
  • Estimate food requirements and costs
  • Collaboration  with staff on ways to include children in the cooking process to allow hands-on learning
  • Maintain and inspect kitchen and food service areas to ensure Health & Safety standards are met
  • Related duties as assigned by the Manager

Qualifications:

  • Previous culinary experience; Red Seal certification and/or related education preferred
  • Valid Food Safety Certificate
  • Current criminal record check (including vulnerable sector check)
  • Current first aid certification (can be obtained upon hire within a designated time frame)
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
